Can i replace cocoa powder with hot chocolate mix in a brownie recipe?

Will it work?

And isn't hot chocolate mix the same as cocoa powder? Can i replace cocoa powder with hot chocolate mix in a brownie recipe?
Yes you can but since it is already sweetened, cut back on the sugar.(maybe a quarter cup)Can i replace cocoa powder with hot chocolate mix in a brownie recipe?
Hot chocolate mix has a large amount of suger, or a sweetener, in the mix.

Cocoa powder should be pure cocoa, with no added sweetener of any kind.

If you make brownies with a hot chocolate mix, you might cut down slightly on the amount of suger in the recipe. I would expect that the finished product would not be as richly chocolate as the original recipe. Still might make a very delicious cookie.
No, cocoa powder is made from cocoa beans. Hot chocolate mix is made up of powdered milk, chocolate flavorings and sugar...Coca powder has no added sugar or anything else in it...taste bitter until you add it to things like brownies...you can try the hot chocolate mix...it could work.
Cocoa is the powder of a cocoa bean. Hot chocolate mix is cocoa with sugar, dried milk and other flavorings. The taste and texture of the brownies will be very different.
Absolutely NOT. Hot chocolate mix has powdered milk and sugar added to it. Cocoa powder is just plain, unsweetened cocoa. Your brownies will be way too sweet, and not chocolatey enough
cocao powder is unsweetened and chocolate mix is sweet mixture

if you switch you will have to cut on your sugar
yeah because you can

make hot chocolate with cocoa powder! :)
not exactly the same but works well enough

  • Can i use real chocolate instead of cocoa powder in a brownie recipe?

I am making brownies, but all of the recipes call for cocoa powder and i only have chocolate. Can i substitute chocolate and something else instead of cocoa powder? Can i use real chocolate instead of cocoa powder in a brownie recipe?
will it work yes, will it be the same as a recipe not using that, no

there are endless ways to make browniesCan i use real chocolate instead of cocoa powder in a brownie recipe?
What do you mean by ';real chocolate?'; If you melt unsweetened, baking chocolate, if you wish you can reduce the fat (butter or shortening) a tablespoon or so in the recipe. If you are using sweetened baking or candy bar chocolate, reduce the amount of sugar slightly. Cocoa is unsweetened chocolate without any fat added to it.
Yes you could. The only problem is it might not have the same consistency, and regular chocolate is often sweeter then cocoa powder. You could try putting in a little less sugar in the brownies to make up for the difference. Try google-ing how much chocolate is equivelent to how much cocoa powder that the recipe called for.
Sure ..... you can use melted chocolate squares (3 TB of cocoa powder plus 1 TB oil ... want is a recipe for ';blondies';.... this is a brownie made with flour instead of cocoa ... yes just use real chocolate.

You need something to use in place of the cocoa powder like baking chocolate squares or chocolate chips that you can melt otherwise you wont have brownies, you will have blondies.
No, you will need it as well as:

    http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/choco鈥?/a>

ALTHOUGH, you could just put plain flour instead the cocoa powder and just add more melted chocolate and see how that turns out!!!
Yes! I've used this recipe numerous times with great results. It calls for chocolate instead of cocoa.

    http://baking.about.com/od/brownies/r/ul鈥?/a>

Also 1 cup chocolate chips=8 oz chocolate in that recipe.
Look at subs in your cookbook or on line. I would go to the store or borrow from a neighbor for the cocoa you need or make something that you have the proper ingredients for.
trust me it doesnt work. i LOVE baking but i use substitues 2 much and i wind up throwing it away so take a trip to the store,or see if a neighbor has it :) hope i helped
depends...Cocoa Powder includes sugar which gives it a sweeter taste...

    When real Chocolate:

    is bitter...

it all depends on what you mean by

    real chocolate.
    i think you could try

    but no

I am almost certain you can not!

It doesnt have the same consistency!

maybe you could use a powder chocolate
yes. it tastes better with real chocolate in my opinion
Go for it, just make sure its well incorporated
if its not baking choc. you need to omit some of the sugar in the recipe or it will be too sweet.
    Yes :)

    That sounds delicious

    Yum!!
yes, but use dark, more coco % the better!
    of course

Bake for 35-40 minutes. (Don't overbake.) Cool and frost if desired, but that is not necessary.

    CHEESECAKE BROWNIES

    Brownie Layer:

    2 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate

    1/2 cup butter

    1 cup sugar

    1/2 teaspoon vanilla

    2 eggs

    1/3 cup flour

    1 cup chopped nuts

    Cheesecake layer:

8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature

    1/2 cup sugar

    2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

    1/2 teaspoon vanilla

    2 eggs

    1 tablespoon flour

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Adjust rack to bottom 1/3 of oven.

Line a 9 x 9-inch pan with a square of aluminum foil. Using 1 tablespoon of butter, grease the pan.

    Brownie Layer:

In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, melt chocolate and butter, stirring occasionally. Whisk in sugar and vanilla. Remove pan from heat and beat in eggs one at at a time. Add flour and stir well, then add chopped nuts.

Turn batter into pan and level with the back of a spoon.

    Chocolate Cheesecake Layer:

In a small bowl, beat cream cheese until soft. Add sugar, cocoa powder and vanilla. Add flour and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Pour cheesecake batter over brownie layer. Smooth top. Marbelize the batter by inserting a knife almost to the bottom of one corner of the pan and cutting through the batter in an S pattern.

Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

    Refrigerate until firm.

    To remove and cut brownies.

Cover top of pan with a sheet of wax paper, then a cookie sheet. Invert onto cookie sheet and peel away foil that was underneath. Invert again right side up. The cheesecake layer will now be on top. Cut into 32 bars or triangles, cleaning blade after each cut.

    Serve cold.

======Looking for the best brownie recipe you have?
I just start with Betty Crocker mix, use the fudgy or cakey recipe, whichever you want. I take chocolate chips and mix a little in before baking, sometimes I dump a few on top of the batter, and push them in with a spoon. sometimes I just put them on the top of the hot brownies, and spread them with a spoon. . I make my Mom's chocolate mocha frosting and frost them. All it is is powdered sugar, cocoa, margarine, and hot coffee as the liquid. I don't measure, just use about half a sack of powdered sugar, 1/2 a stick of margarine, cocoa powder to taste, it takes at least a couple heaping tablespoons, and just enough coffee to make it all creamy. Stir with a spoon, and it is wise to sift the powdered sugar before using so you don't have to stir and stir to get any potential lumps out. People don't know that the frosting is mocha, it just makes it taste rich. I hated coffee as a kid, I would not have touched the frosting if it tasted strongly of coffee.

sometimes I put pecans in the brownies.

I get rave reviews with this, people think they are homemade. an ex-coworker always demanded I make them for potlucks.

try betty crocker recipe books.. don't cook as long for fudgy brownies
First off, brownies do not stay soft for long. An easy way to do this is to buy the Betty Crocker brownie mix. When it's done, pour chocolate chips and caramel sundae topping over the top and put it back in the oven until the chocolate melts. A few miniature marshmallows added is good too.
